You will qualify for a free NHS sight test if one of the below statements applies to you:

- You’re aged 60 or over

- You’re aged under 16

- You’re a full-time student aged 16, 17 or 18

- You or your partner receive income support, universal credit, tax credits, pension credit guarantee or Income-related employment support allowance.

- You’re named on a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate

- You’re named on a valid HC2 certificate

- You’re registered blind or partially sighted

- You’re considered to be at risk of glaucoma by an ophthalmologist

- You’re aged 40 or over and have a family history of glaucoma

- You’ve been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma

- You’re prescribed complex spectacle lenses

The NHS will pay for tests more frequently than every two years if you are aged 70 or over or in other special circumstances – for example, you’re diabetic.
