As we age so do our eyes, so it is important to be vigilant about age related vision loss because early diagnosis is critical in treating many sight threatening conditions.

Common changes that you could notice in your vision as you get older include;

  • Requiring more light to see.

  • Presbyopia (reduced near vision).

  • Increased sensitivity to glare.

  • Changes to colour perception.

  • Reduced production of tears.

As frustrating as these changes are, there are some ways that you can combat them to make your life easier and your eyes healthy.

  • Attend regular eye examinations, obviously if you have regular eye exams there is more chance that sight threatening conditions can be caught early, but regular eye exams are also helpful for making sure you are wearing the right prescription in your spectacles.

  • Make sure you protect your eyes from the sun, UV rays can damage your eyes over time and can be a cause of cataracts, so make sure you wear sunglasses whenever possible outdoors.

  • Give varifocals or bifocals a try, if you are sick and tired of swapping between reading glasses and distance glasses why not try varifocals or bifocals. Varifocals offer three different prescriptions in one lens and Bifocals offer two different prescriptions in one lens.

  • Lubrication drops can ease discomfort, itchiness & irritation that you can get from the reduced production of tears. Make using eye drops part of your daily routine to keep your eye health in tip top shape.

We cannot stress more how important a regular eye exam is if you over the age of 40, it is so important for your eye health and wellbeing. So when was your last eye exam? Is it time to get one booked in? Give us a call, we would be happy to see you.
