You may have been recommended by an optician to have an anti-reflective coating on your spectacle lenses before, but do you know what they actually do and how they can help you?

All spectacle lenses can be thought of as four surfaces, two internal and two external, where each reflect and refract light. An anti-reflective lens coating aims to reduce the reflective portion of this light and allow as much as possible to reach the eye and give you the clearest vision. Benefits of this lens coating can include reducing ghost images and glare from car headlights when driving, and, reducing glare from digital devices, as well as enhancing the appearance of your glasses by making your eyes more visible to others.

An anti-reflective lens coating is particularly beneficial on high-index lenses because, generally the higher the index of refraction of the lens material, the more light would be reflected from the surface of the lens.

You can also apply an anti-reflective coating to your sunglasses lenses, this is a good idea because it helps to eliminate the glare reflected into your eyes from the back surface of the tinted lenses.

At Direct Eyecare we can offer different types of anti-reflective coating, our friendly team are on hand to help you choose the right one to suit you.

If you have any questions regarding our lens range or anti-reflective coatings then be sure to give us a call, we would be happy to help you.
